Medium & Small CAPS in the Spanish Stock Exchange

The collection of companies classified as "Medium & Small Cap", meaning listed companies with small or medium capitalization, are inspiring  huge interest among investors, analysts, financial intermediaries, communication media, and financial market participants in general . The Spanish Exchange quotes a wide range of companies with small to medium capitalisation and is rich in terms of sectors, products, future business strategies, and as a result, in alternative investments. In order to call attention to them; this group includes listed companies that do not form part of the selective Spanish Exchange index, the IBEX 35®. There are reasons for this interest. The market performance of these companies in terms of risk and return has been positive in the entire world during the last few years, but particularly so in Spain. On the one hand, there has been an increase in analyst and investor coverage resulting in stock market efficiency improvements. On the other hand, it has caused renewed interest in the markets from the companies themselves, which have seen their results, plans and expectations positively valued, as well as how the ability to attract resources with advantageous conditions within the market has become possible.

The objective of this web is to facilitate the analysis of small and medium cap companies that were quoted on the Spanish Continuous Stock Exchange as of 31 December 2008. The companies which are included comprise, along with the 35 components companies of the IBEX 35 index, the most important business structure in Spain, and many of them are leaders in the markets where they operate.

The web includes descriptions of each company, who they belong to, what their products, markets, and finances are, as well as the performance of their shares on the stock exchange. There is a small history of each of them describing their operations, characteristics, markets, business volume, products, and international expansion. A table has been prepared identifying the members of the Board of Directors, the principle shareholders of the company, and how much they own. Contact information for each company includes location and means for communicating with the Investor Service Department. There is also a summary of the balance sheet and profit and loss statement of the last two years, and the performance of the share on the stock exchange for the last six years: prices, volumes, capitalisation, liquidity, PER, dividends, Pay-Outs, earnings per share, etc.

For its part, BME, the company which manages the Spanish Stock Exchange, launched two new IBEX® family indexes in 2005: the IBEX MEDIUM CAP® and IBEX SMALL CAP® which are intended to track the performance of these important market segments, enhancing their visibility and improving the liquidity of small and medium cap companies. This site has a section describing what these new indicators are. The preparation of this web is the work of professors and students from the Masters in Banking and Financial Markets program at the Finance School of A Coruña.  Its primary objective is to spread knowledge of this group of leading companies that form a fundamental part of Spanish business structure.
